The Offering
Why this prasad, and why this way
Madurai smells of jasmine at four in the afternoon and of camphor by seven. The Amman sanctum is entered before the Sundareswarar one — the goddess first, always, in this city. Panchamirtham here is dense and dark and keeps for a fortnight. We collect after the Kalasanthi puja and add the jasmine that was on the garland.
